Habitat for Humanity's Solar Challenge

We have challenged the following groups with raising $1,000 each to help us add solar to the new house in Putnam Lake. You can follow their progress here. Habitat for Humanity Putnam County knows that a green building is better for the environment, the community and for our partner family who will move into our home in Putnam Lake. Through this we have made it a priority to implement green building steps into the home and to educate our volunteers in the process. Whether using a more durable siding, recycled blue jeans for insulation or simply recycling our own materials on site, each step has a purpose and a benefit. One major green building step of course is solar, which has wonderful benefits for the environment and the family in greatly reduced utility bills. However solar is one of the more costly green building steps to put on a Habitat home and would be difficult to justify spending that money when so many other families are in need in Putnam County. Our affiliate has decided that we will put solar on our home, benefiting this family and the environment, as long as we don't deprive another family in need of a simple decent place to live in the process. With that we have put forth our 'Solar Challenge' to the youth of our community. Each Habitat club has been given a goal to fundraise $1,000 for the solar of this home. This makes a real difference for a family, for Habitat and for the community. They have the ability to get involved off the site and make a tangible effect for the better in their own backyard. Some clubs have already made their goal and are working beyond, some are almost there and others are struggling. We would like to recognize and thank the youth of our community for getting active and making a difference with us. We would also like to encourage you to help them make their goal and make solar on this home in Putnam County a reality.
